AOL 017: Gordon Firemark the Podcasting Lawyer

This week’s interview is with lawyer Gordon Firemark. Gordon is an entertainment lawyer who has a passion for podcasting. In this episode we talk about how to start a law firm, how to break into entertainment law, how to start a podcast, and so much more. One of the things I loved about this interview was Gordon’s honesty when it comes to the difficulties associated with starting a law firm and what he did to overcome them. How to Make a Great Law Firm "Squeeze" Page

I promised to have these changes done before the next episode of The Art of Lawyering Podcast came out (Episode 17, which you can listen to by clicking here after 3/30/15) and so here you go. In AOL 017 I talk to Gordon Firemark, who, at the end of the show, gave me some critiques of my sales page for Law Firm Confidential, the page that describes my lawyer membership site devoted to helping people start and build successful law firms. He had some great suggestions, so I promised to have the changes made before the episode was released. AND, I promised to create a blog post dedicated to describing the changes I made. This is that blog post. The old version and the new version Let’s get one thing out of the way. CLICK HERE to see the original version of the Law Firm Confidential sales page. AOL 016: 5 things I'd do differently if starting a law firm today

Before I get to the meat of the show, I want to tell you about a new, FREE, course I’m offering – How to Start a Law Firm in 30 days. It’s going to be a daily lesson for 30 days and when you’re done you’ll have a successful law firm up and running. CLICK HERE to check it out. 5 things I’d do differently if starting a law firm today Although my law firm today is successful and strong, I feel like I could have gotten to where I’m at today faster if I would have done a couple of things differently. Today I’m going to share those with you. 1. Google Adwords for my law firm You’ve been hearing me talk about this one for a while in the last few weeks because I’m teaching it as the course for Law Firm Confidential this quarter, but it’s also one of my biggest regrets when it comes to starting […]

5 reasons I hate lawyer networking events

This morning, at 7:30 a.m. I went to a “Breakfast of Champions” event with a buddy of mine. He is a lawyer. He went because his business partner bought a table. He invited me because they needed to fill the table. I think the last time I went to one of these was about a year ago when the same situation happened. Going today reminded me of 5 reasons I hate lawyer networking events. I thought I would share them with you. 1. Lawyers don’t get the concept of networking I think the fatal flaw with law school and with most law firms is that they don’t take the time to teach and coach their lawyers about what networking is and the right way to do it. And what makes it worse is that most lawyers network the wrong way, making it impossible for me to talk to most of them. Let me illustrate. Most of the lawyers at these […]

Persistence and law firm marketing

If it were easy, everyone would do it. If it worked the first time, everyone would try it. If success were guaranteed, there’d be no room for you. Universal Rule of Law Firm Marketing There’s one thing I’ve learned in all of the studying and hands on implementation of law firm marketing concepts that I’ve done over the years. And, whether or not you want to believe, it, it’s true. Business fundamentals still hold true today. The only thing that has changed is how those fundamentals are put into practice (and in some ways nothing has changed). Networking is still networking. Direct mail is still direct mail (though you can now do it via the internet). Getting people to raise their hands for your stuff is always easier than trying to convince them they need it. Face to face always beats over the phone which always beats a written letter which always beats a postcard which always beats an advertisement. […]

Writing a Plan for Your Month

I was listening to a podcast this morning and the guest had a great idea for getting the most out of yourself from month to month. First, things first, though, the name of the podcast is The Solopreneur Hour and it’s an interview show where the host talks to people about life, success, and the pursuit of happiness. There’s usually a ton of great information to take from each guest. But this little nugget was too good not to pass up. A Daily Routine with a Wrinkle I’ve talked about my daily routine before, and I do something similar to what the guest on this podcast was listening about, but he had a wrinkle that I think I’m going to incorporate into my daily routine. At the beginning of every month Nick (the guest on the show – to listen to this specific episode, click here) writes down his goals for the month. But he doesn’t do it like you […]

AOL 015: Alejandro Reyes and Facebook for Law Firms

Today’s topic is one I think you’ll all be interested in – Facebook. You may be thinking, “there’s no way I can use Facebook ads for my law firm, it just won’t work.” But that’s where you are 100% wrong. And if you listen to this podcast I think you’ll find out why (here’s a hint: you are probably thinking of advertising in the traditional sense – the stuff we talk about today is super ninja). And, make sure you listen all the way to the end, because our guest has a special offer for a FREE review of your podcast! So, without further adieu, Alejandro Reyes! The importance of having something to root for…

I’m big on sharing here. Every Friday I send an email out to my Emerald City Law Group list. This list is made up of former clients, people in my network, and all kinds of other people. I talk about business sometimes, but I also talk about things like I’ve included below. Find the time when you can do the same, and it will make all the difference in your business. Hello Chris: I was sitting in front of the television this morning watching my Kansas Jayhawks take on the Aggies of New Mexico State and I was thinking about why this game even mattered to me. For many of you it may be the Seahawks, or the Mariners, or the Sounders, or it may be your son or daughter, or a friend that is trying to do something great, but for me they are all the same. And as I was thinking about it I realized what it was […]
