This week’s podcast is a really good one. It's Always Your Fault.

Today at the office we had an incident. No, not that kind of incident, but the kind of incident that cost us a client (and a fee). We talked to a prospective client last week that agreed to sign up with us. All we had to do was send them the paperwork and get the details ironed out. Problem was, that never happened. For some reason there was a lack of communication and the client went somewhere else. When my business partner found out he wasn’t very happy. It was his client and he didn’t like losing the client or having his reputation tarnished in any way for failing to communicate. He sent me a message over Slack and said, “where did the communication break down? Who’s fault was this?” I didn’t have to even think before answering, “it was our fault.” And it was true. If the poor communication happened because someone on our team failed to follow up […]

AOL 041: How to Start a Law Firm Right Out of Law School with Omar Nur

This week’s episode of The Art of Lawyering Podcast is a special one. I sit down with Omar Nur or Nur Law to discuss how to start a law firm, networking, and the right way to buy a law firm to increase the size of your law firm. Omar Nur is a lifetime resident of Seattle and now has his own law firm, Nur Law, based in the Seattle area. He practices criminal defense, immigration law, and traffic defense. He is also one of the happiest people I know and one of the best Facebook posters I have ever met. Like most of us, Omar started his firm the traditional way: he hung out his shingle and started hustling for clients. But, unlike most of us, he has since grown his practice by purchasing the book of business from another established law firm. More from the show. Here are just a couple of the things we talked about on the […]

AOL 040: How to Beat Writer's Block

I was sitting here trying to think about what I was going to talk about on this week’s edition of The Art of Lawyering Podcast and I thought a perfect topic was how to come up with ideas for content when you have no ideas for content. Though, before we get there, I must admit that I was inspired by another article I saw today by the amazing AVC Blog (CLICK HERE to see the post I’m talking about on my Facebook page – and then like my Facebook page). The article makes a point to say that pros generate content, even when they don’t want to. And you have to do that too. I came up with 6 ways to beat writer’s block. If you want to start a law firm the right way, or if your law firm is struggling and you aren’t valium online india sure what to do, start making content. Law firm marketing is all […]

To make his mark, Jacob focused on social media, and is now known as one of the true success stories when it comes […]

AOL 038: How to Start a Law Firm – Surviving the "Dip"

On this episode of The Art of Lawyering Podcast I talk about something all law firm owners face at one time or another – The Dip. The Dip is that place we all find ourselves when we’re not sure whether or not to keep going with the law firm. It’s that place you get where you aren’t sure whether or not the place you are is because your idea won’t work or you simply haven’t given your idea enough time to grow. In homage to The Dip, I came up with 5 ways to survive it: Push through; Take a break; Pivot; Reflect; Quit. How to Start a Law Firm: Day 2201

Tuesdays for me are all about networking. Each Tuesday I have a goal to get several things done: 4 coffee invites; 4 lunch invites; 1 coffee meeting; 1 lunch meeting; Some days I get there, some days I don’t. It depends on the other things that pop up during the day that distract me (notice I didn’t say that I have to do – they are distractions away from what my real goals are). On this precise day you know I did my morning routine, like I always do: ol> Wake up 5:15 a.m. – brush teeth, glass of water; Exercise – yoga/push-ups/planks; Meditation – 5 minutes; Affirmations; Vision board; Gratefulness journaling; Read 10 pages of a good book (right now – The Success Principles by Jack Canfield); French practice Then, it was off to work. I must admit, I didn’t get nearly as much knocked off of my to-do list as I wanted to. There were simply too many […]
