Fear and Starting a Law Firm
If you couldn’t tell, I’ve started a little something here. Every day I’m going to put out a little quote and then talk about how it affects my life. Maybe, if it resonates with you, it will affect you too.
Everyone Experiences Fear
Did you know that fear actually goes back to ancient times? We had to be afraid and on the lookout constantly just to stay alive. Lions don’t generally give you second chances.
That fear was great then, but over time it’s been ingrained in our genes. To survive in the past we needed to be drawn to the safe, to the secure, to the known quantity.
But in today’s world that will get you mediocrity at best.
Embrace Fear when Marketing Your Law Firm
Whenever I start something new or go for something bigger I feel immense fear.
What if it fails?
What if it succeeds?
What if I look like an idiot?
What if people don’t like it?
What if everything I believe in is wrong?
It’s easy to go down the rabbit hole. Don’t. It’s never going to be as bad as you think it is.
Embrace the Fear and Experiment
The sooner you understand that marketing a law firm and starting a law firm is one big experiment, the sooner you’ll start seeing the success you want.
Remember in elementary school when you learned about the scientific method? It goes something like this:
- Ask a question;
- Do background investigation;
- Construct a hypothesis;
- Test your hypothesis by doing an experiment;
- Analyze your data and draw a conclusion; and
- Communicate your results.
That’s it right? Nope. There is one more step. Use the results to start at the beginning, using the new information in your background information.
Life is one big experiment. When are you going to start doing experiments?
