Law Firm Internet Marketing: Google Making Big Changes to Adwords

Whether you know this or not, google adwords has been a significant factor in the success of my law firm. I used to be against Google Adwords. I used to think the service was only used by tire kickers and people who weren’t really interested in getting a lawyer. And then I took some to learn the system, including how to make an ad and an offer that convert, and boom, I was off to the races. Google Adwords Becoming More Important than SEO for Law Firm Internet Marketing When I started my firm in 2009, SEO was all the rage. I catapulted myself up the number one ranking for terms like “DUI lawyer,” “DUI attorney,” and things like that, and business was good. But then Google changed. Not only did they update their search algorithm, making it much harder to game the system, but they actually intentionally began making the search results less and less relevant to searchers. Here’s […]

AOL 108: Five Things I've Learned From Starting an Estate Planning Law Firm

I’ve been doing a little reflecting this week about what I’ve learned so far in this journey of starting an estate planning law firm (or essentially starting one). If you didn’t know, I’m now officially a Bellevue estate planning attorney (yes, it’s a shameless plug), and I’m working my ass off to get this thing off the ground. Over the past several weeks I’ve already learned a lot about the business, and now I want to share it with you (as always, if you want to get the inside scoop you actually have to listen to the podcast). 1. In some ways starting a law firm from scratch is easier than starting something that’s already been established. The firm I’m “starting” is already several years old. I equate some of the stuff I’m trying to do to be the equivalent of trying to turn an aircraft carrier. 2. In some ways starting from something that’s already been established is easier […]

Want to Get More Law Firm Clients? Follow up.

I was having a chat with my buddy the other day and I was talking about how interesting it was now that I’m an estate planning lawyer. What is interesting is that I am not having trouble creating leads for business. The trouble is coming from getting people to actually pull the trigger. And let me be clear here real quick. These aren’t people that are saying no. In fact, they are saying yes. They just aren’t taking the next steps in the process. They still answer my calls. They still respond to my emails. They simply have no urgency to take action. The Power of Follow Up for Law Firm Clients My buddy, who is in the financial industry, completely felt my pain. And he answered my question with three words: Relentless follow up. “There was a study done some time ago that found that in situation like yours and mine where the thing to be done was important […]

Starting a Law Firm? Embrace the Fear.

This is going to be a shorty but a goody. I was having lunch with a potential referral partner today. We were talking about putting on lunch and learns to add value to referral sources and get in front of potential clients. “I know I should be doing it,” she said. “But I’m afraid.” You know what’s great about that? We are all afraid. Every. Single. One of us. Afraid. Afraid of looking stupid. Afraid of failing. Afraid of asking to do the presentation and getting rejected. Afraid of having no one sign up with us. But you know the difference between someone that starts a law firm that is successful and someone that starts a law firm that fails? Successful people embrace the fear. They fight through it. They understand that on the other side buy diazepam online no rx it’s not so bad. What are you afraid of right now? Write that fear down, set it on fire, […]
