109: Great Law Firm Owners Don’t Have to Wake Up Early

great law firm owner
Great Law Firm Owners Don’t Have to Wake Up Early For some reason I had it in my head recently that to be successful I had to wake up early. I spent a lot of time thinking about what a great law firm owner I’d be when I started waking up at 5 am every day. The journaling I’d do. The meditating. The reading. The legal work. It was going to be AMAZING. And then something happened that kind of threw it all off. The alarm started going off at 5 am, and I didn’t wake up. EVER. On the 10th day I finally called it quits. No more 5 am wake ups (or alarm bells, I guess, since I never work up). That’s what today’s episode is all about – finding the right path for YOU to be successful with your law firm. Listen in to get the full scoop. Cheers. Christopher Small P.S. – Looking for the […]

Must Read Law Firm Marketing Books of 2015 (part 3)

If you missed part 1 of this series, click here. If you missed part 2, click here. Over time, as my firm began to grow and become more successful, I started putting more money into the bank. We were having $20,000 months, then $30,000 months, then $40,000 month, but something funny was happening. We weren’t making any more money. What I mean is, it seemed like at the end of every month I’d look at the bank balance and we’d be right where we were when we started. That made no sense, particularly when we had a big month, but it was true. Then I read this must read law firm marketing book and not only did I gain an invaluable perspective on where the money was going, I implemented a system to put more of it in my pocket. Must Read Law Firm Marketing Book: Profit First by Mike Michalowicz This book takes a completely different perspective on managing […]

LFMM 078: Miami Business Attorney Brett Trembly

I’ve been asking for successful attorneys to come onto this show since I started it all those years ago. And only a few have raised their hands and volunteered their time to tell their story. Today, I’m happy to introduce you to another. What I most enjoyed about this interview was Brett’s honesty. He didn’t pull any punches when talking about his journey. Successes, challenges, good times and bad, he shared it all. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Brett Trembly, Miami Business Attorney [leadplayer_vid id=”54607EB8695DA”] It is my pleasure to introduce today’s guest on the show, a life long entrepreneur who has turned that passion into starting and building a successful Miami law firm focusing on helping other business reach the heights of success. I met our guest via Marc Cerniglia, a recent guest on the show. When we finished up I asked him if he could give me some names of lawyers that were killing it […]

The “Hidden” Cost of Starting a Law Firm Most People Forget About

By: Christopher Small On this, the eve of the Presidential Election, I thought I’d talk about one of the “hidden” costs of starting a law firm that most people forget about. It’s a cost that, quite honestly, may be the biggest expense I pay all year. You may be wondering how something so big could be hidden. Well, the fact of the matter is, it’s not actually hidden. We all know it exists. What happens, though, is that I, at least, am constantly under anticipating what the actual cost is. And that’s not a good thing for my bottom line. What’s the cost I’m talking about? TAXES Owning a Business Brings with it a Ton of Tax Obligations One of the things people don’t really talk about when starting a law firm are the tax obligations you are going to face. I guess that’s because at the beginning, when you aren’t making great money, there’s no taxes to pay. But, […]
